'Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance' Overview: Michael Keaton's Comeback Sets 'Birdman' in Track; Interview with Director Alejandro González Iñárritu
"Birdman: The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance" is a comedy drama starring Zach Galifianakis, Emma Stone, Edward Norton, and the return of Michael Keaton is another great movie written and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. In the movie, Keaton will portray the role of an actor that is popular of portraying superhero exerting more efforts to achieve Broadway. He needs to conquer his ego as well as his family while preparing himself to reach his dreams and aspiration.
According to Rolling Stone, when Keaton was asked about filming "Birdman" he answered the writer and director Iñárritu, "Is this a joke? Are you making fun of me?" Well, something like that. Then the director answered him honestly in most serious way. At that time he never thought that Keaton will answer him, "I'm in!" Eventhough that's what Iñárritu is expecting Keaton to answer him, but during that time because of shock and excitement he still can't believe the fact that his offer to Keaton was accepted over the good bottle of wine during that night.
"He didn't know what he was getting into." This was what Iñárritu thought when Keaton accepted the role. Well, this was because he thought that the film would be having too many broad strokes. However, just before Keaton showed up on set, the "Birdman" team has already come up with its every movement. Hence, when the "Birdman" started filming everything went smoothly. Initially, Keaton freaked out, but eventually everything was perfect.
There is this part in the film wherein Keaton is running through Time Square streets with only his underwear in the center of the crowd. When Iñárritu was asked about this, he laughed and jokingly said that it was crazy. Such scene was carefully planned and they were serious about it. The actor shared that when they were deciding how to do that scene, they were lost, saying "didn't know how to do it," for two reasons: he cannot afford to pull and hire additional extras and authorities wouldn't close the Time Square.
Deadline reported that "Birdman" gained the top spot in the Specialty box office with $100,000 per theater which is easily unmatchable!
