PlayStation 4: Major Software Update Announced, Available For Download Tuesday Oct. 28
Sony Computer Entertainment will be releasing PlayStation 4 System Software Update version 2.0, code-named Masamune, on Tuesday, October 28, according to its Twitter post. The tweet reads: "PS4′s next software update, Masamune, will be available on 10/28. Includes Share Play, USB Music player, and more!" At what time on Tuesday the update will go live however has not yet been announced. Once available, the update will of course be free for download by those with PlayStation 4. At its system software updates support website, Sony advises: "A PS4 system software update is required to use PSN features and some features on your system. Also, by updating the system software of your PS4TM system, you can enjoy various additional features and enhanced security. Always update to the latest version."
Sony's PlayStation blog site says the upcoming system software 2.0, aside from Share Play and USP Music player, will include new features like Themes, Youtube support, Change Colors, Players You May Know, Enhancements to Live Broadcasting, Content Area and Library, Enhanced Voice Commands, and Add to Library. According to Product Planning & Software Innovation Director Scott McCarthy, who wrote the post, "PS4 has been on sale for almost a year and we're committed to improving the player experience in entirely new ways. As always, we welcome feedback as part of our ongoing effort to make PS4 the best place to play."
Simultaneous with the updating of PlayStation 4 to version 2.0, the PS Vita and PS TV systems will also receive a system software update to version 3.35 with the same timing as Masamune, adding four-player Remote Play support to PS TV. In addition, the Live from PlayStation app, which allows users to watch live gameplay streams from PS4 systems, will be available on both PS Vita and PS TV alongside this update. Also, the PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets, which is available free on the App Store and Google Play, will be receiving an update to version 2.0 within the same launch window as both the PS4 and the PS Vita system software updates. This update provides a new layout for tablets, and the app's home screen has been redesigned, according to McCarthy.
