Snapchat First Advertisement is a Movie Trailer for Ouija
Many brands nowadays have been using Snapchat as an alternative to using social networking sites. Since its entry to the online community, it had started to make Facebook look less attractive to younger generations. Unfortunately, the company had decided to do sponsored posts as well on their site which makes people second doubt their choice of preferring it over Facebook and Twitter.
Co.Create reports that the first sponsored post of Snapchat is a twenty-second movie trailer for Universal Pictures' new horror film 'Oujia'. With the movie mainly about teenagers, Universal Pictures' deems it right to market it on an app with mostly the young generation as its audience. The idea is the post will appear in the user's recent updates wherein he will be given the option to watch it or not. The post will disappear once it has been viewed or within twenty-four hours.
Inquisitr told their readers that users should probably get used to the idea of sponsored posts popping up on their screens as it is there to stay. Snapchat had assured their users though that the placement of posts is not based on any analysis on their gender, preference, etc. Meaning to say, the app will not be using personal information for the sake of targeting audience for product advertisements.
Is Snapchat's move the right one? Will they continue to reign over the youth or start losing their users? Let's observe for some months and find out.
