Shakira New Self-Titled Album Hits No. 1 on iTunes, Still on Top with Her 10th Studio Album (VIDEO)
Shakira's new self-titled album Shakira released yesterday (March 25) and to no surprise went straight to No. 1 on iTunes for top albums overtaking the popular Frozen movie soundtrack. She released her smash hit duet with Rihanna, "Can't Remember to Forget You," and last week released her second single "Empire". The album was originally set to release in 2012, but it was delayed due to her pregnancy. This is Shakira's 10th studio album, giving her a career span of over 20 years, with her first release Magia releasing in 1991. Crazy, right?
The Colombian-born singer has been a international pop superstar for the last decade and been able to stay relevant in America as well, even between records. It had been four years since Shakira's last release Sale el Sol (2010) but has stayed in the spotlight as a coach on America's top singing competition, "The Voice", on NBC. She has been trading seasons with popstar, Christina Aguilera, since Season 4. She is joined by coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine (Maroon 5) and Usher. "The Voice" is currently in the middle of Season 6, tune into "The Voice" on NBC on Mondays and Tuesday nights at 7pm Central.
Shakira has won two Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, twenty-eight Billboard Latin Music Awards and has been Golden Globe-nominated. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and she is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 125 milion records including 70 million albums worldwide.
