Top 7 Worship Songs for Easter
With Easter around the corner, here's a look back at some of our favorite worship songs that can be used to service the church in her praises. Here are our top 7 finalists.
7. Passion featuring Crowder "My Victory"
Aplenty are the worship songs that celebrate Christ's victory and rightly so should we celebrate Christ's triumphant topple of sin and death. Crowder's "My Victory" takes this theme a set farther: one of the reasons why few of us truly surrender to Christ's victory is because we have a triumphant heart. We have a "do-it-for-myself" idol in our hearts that needs to be overcome. "My Victory" asks the question: when Christ's victory meets mine, which will triumph? That's the million dollar Easter conundrum.
6. Kari Jobe "Forever"
The opening words are so arresting: "The moon and stars they wept, the morning sun was dead/The Savior of the world was fallen/His body on the cross, His blood poured out for us/The weight of ev'ry curse upon Him..." But worship leaders may have to adjust the chords in the chorus as most congregation members would not have the vocal capacity to volume through such a roller coaster of extreme highs and lows of the song.
5. Vertical Church Band "I'm Going Free (Jailbreak)"
If you are some holy rock n' roll to spice up your song list for Easter, give "I'm Going Free" a go. Fun, catchy and yet capturing the efficacious redemptive work of Christ succinctly, "I'm Going Free" is one of those rare songs that are rich not only in its words but it's also fun to singalong with.
4. Bethel Music "No Longer Slaves"
Justin Bieber has this song in his iTunes library. Newsboys had just recorded their own version. Darlene Zschech has raved about it on Instagram. Why? Our hearts are idol factories and these idols want to enslave us. And we all know (though few will admit it) that these idols make us addicts. We need a greater Master... and Easter reminds us that that Master has come.
3. Hope Chapel "The Miracle"
If you are looking for a song that paints; a song that draws in both the ears and eyes; look no farther than Dream Records' Hope Chapel's "The Miracle." Taken from their new album "Whatever May Come" released late last year, this brings the Resurrection account to live with realism and heart.
2. "Yours Forever (You Took the Nails)" by Darlene Zschech & Kari Jobe
Buried in an album filled with powerhouse anthems such as "Victor's Crown" and "In Jesus' Name," is this relatively unknown worship ballad by Hillsong's former worship pastor Darlene Zschech. The beauty of the song is that it goes the nine yards in describing the sacrifice and the resurrection of Jesus. Then in the midst of such descriptive praise, Zschech makes the added application of what ll of this means to her in a tender, heartfelt, and contrite way. An overlooked gem that needs to be unearthed.
1. Jeremy Camp "Same Power"
Worship leaders would do well to not only include songs that describe the resurrection events, but also songs that also spell out the implications of the resurrection of Christ. Such as we need to also choose songs that answers the questions: "Yes, Christ has been raised, but what has this to do with me?" Struggling for an answer? Jeremy Camp's "Same Power" lays down the answer in a powerful way.
