Pat Boone Calls SNL's Parody of "God is Not Dead 2" Satan Ridiculing Faith
In its April 16 episode, SNL depicted a parody entitled God is a Boob Man based on the new Christian movie "God's Not Dead 2." The episode has been criticized by legendary singer and committed Christian Pat Boone as "diabolical" and "devilish funny."
The episode, hosted by Veep's Julia Louis-Dreyfus, ended with a digital short that poked fun at the many religious films that have been released lately with A-list stars. In the parody trailer for God Is a Boob Man, Beth (played by Vanessa Bayer), is just a "small-town baker without a care" until a gay couple came to the bakery and "her faith was tested," says the narrator. A gay couple, played by SNL'sTaran Killam and Jon Rudnitsky, hires her to bake them a wedding cake, but she refuses.
"From the makers of God on the Run and Angel in Denim, a story of liberal elites run wild," explains the narrator. After she is brought to court for refusing to make the cake, she refuses to say that god is gay. "If god is gay, then why aren't there any gay priests?" Beth yells in the courtroom. "God is a boob man!"
"God has a sense of humor. Why else would he invent the porcupine and the giraffe?" Pat Boone told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday. "Something can be devilishly funny, but this skit is diabolical. God has only one real enemy - Satan. Satan ridicules faith, and they're taking Satan's side. They're also ridiculing me and the film, telling impressionable young people not to see it because it's ridiculous. Then they throw in that the lawyer is Jewish to make the Christian look even worse, but it's just anti-Semitic."
Boone said he used to watch SNL religiously, and in the early years he was asked to host the show.
"I asked them to promise that they wouldn't make fun of my faith or my family, and they wouldn't do it, so I declined. I know they would have treated me like a complete sap," he said. "I used to love SNL. I'd record it every week. It's gotten filthy, though, so no more."
"As much as I've enjoyed SNL," said Boone, "they went over the line, and believers in God deserve an apology."
"They'd never take those names in vain, but when they called God a 'boob man,' they took his name in vain," he said.
Pat Boone is known for his faith and he has just released a brand new self-composed new Christian album entitled Legacy.
