Joy Williams Speaks of Life After the Civil Wars & the Possibility of Reuniting

It's been two years since The Civil Wars broke up. The Civil Wars comprised of Joy Williams and John Paul White. Formed in 2008, They won four Grammy Awards prior to their 2014 breakup Recently, Joy Williams spoke of the breakup and the difficulty of re-starting her solo career again.
In an interview with The Huffington Post, Williams explained to host Lauren Moraski why the musical breakup between her and bandmate John Paul White was particularly "difficult." "It's very difficult when something abruptly stops and you can get bitter about it, or you can just accept that that's the way the world is," Williams said. "We all grow. We all shift. We all change and there's room for everybody. There's room for everybody, so best of luck."
Prior to her involvement with the Civil Wars, between 2001 and 2005, Joy Williams was a Christian recording artist. She was nominated for 11 Dove Awards, and the three records she released on Reunion cumulatively sold more than 250,000 albums. She was raised in a Christian home in Santa Cruz, California, where her parents worked in ministry. She attended Valley Christian High School in San Jose and graduated as the class valedictorian in 2001.
In addition to singing in church, Williams began writing faith-based pop songs while living in Santa Cruz. At 17, she was signed by Reunion Records, a subsidiary of Sony/BMG based in Brentwood, Tennessee. Williams moved to Nashville in 2001, in part to be closer to the label's headquarters.
Williams still supports White's career and called his new album, "Beulah," "beautiful." "He's so talented," Williams added. But prospects of them having a reunion are unclear.
As to whether she will reunite with White, she said: "I have no idea. I mean, I think for me, all that I can do is just be present for today and just stay creative and let the path unwind as it does."
