Israel Houghton Sets the Record Straight About His Child Support Lawsuit Rumors

Worship leader, songwriter, and Christian music producer Israel Houghton has been recently accused of failing to pay child support to two of his children borned to him via an extramarital affair. However, Houghton's team has responded that the claim that the singer hasn't paid child support payments are not true.
Neverthleless, what is true is that Houghton sired two children outside of his own marriage. His two youngest children, Kingston, 4, and Khristian, 2, were both fathered in an extramarital affair during his 20-year marriage. With his ex-wife Meleasa, they had three other children.
Houghton's representatives said in a statement to The Christian Post that the court documents published on the Bossip website have nothing to do with child support payments.
"This article posted on Bossip was inaccurate and misleading, the case and filing by the Texas State Attorney General has absolutely nothing to do with child support. Mr. Houghton has and continues to provide financial support for the children at issue," Houghton's representatives told CP.
"Nothing in the filing by the Texas State Attorney General states or alleges otherwise. Thus, the statements in the original article, that the attorney general 'has sued the gospel singer to force him to pay for the upkeep' of the children, and that the 'attorney general demanded in court papers recently that Houghton start paying both back and current child support,' are totally false."
Earlier in the year, Houghton announced the end of his 20-year marriage to Meleasa Houghton, telling Facebook followers "I failed and sinned in my marriage."
"Several years ago I failed and sinned in my marriage. ... Although we tried, the challenges in our relationship have proven too much to overcome. We have always handled our family and ministry with grace and generosity toward others, discretion, and privacy," Houghton posted.
Houghton was the senior worship leader at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church. He and then-wife Meleasa founded New Breed Ministries in 1995. New Breed Ministries is comprised of noted musicians and singers who serve within their respective churches and, together, serve the church at large.
Houghton has won five Grammy Awards, 13 Dove Awards, two Stellar Awards and a Soul Train Music Award.
