"The Conjuring 2" Release Date Revealed, and Spoilers for "Annabelle" Spinoff Film Released
Horror junkies the world over may rejoice; "The Conjuring 2" has officially landed a release date. The sequel to the well-received film "The Conjuring" will appear in theaters on October 23, 2015, making itself available just in time for Halloween. However, the makers of the film were not content to leave fans waiting, and so they have granted us a sequel.
Those who saw the first film may remember the star of the opening sequence: the incredibly creepy possessed doll, Annabelle. The spin-off film coming in October will explore Annabelle's story a bit more in-depth than we saw in the original film. We do not know if Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, or any other "Conjuring" stars will appear in this film, but we do know that Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton are set to star in the spin-off film.
The film is directed by John Leonetti, who served as cinematographer for "The Conjuring." Meanwhile, the director of the first film, James Wan, served as producer for the sequel.
Like many of the events that happen in "The Conjuring," Annabelle the doll has a disturbing backstory of true events. The doll, which was a Raggedy Ann doll, rather than the porcelain one we see in the film, was given to a college student and her roommate. The two girls began to experience strange phenomena, such as the doll moving on its own. After two failed exorcisms, the doll was locked in a cabinet, as we see portrayed in "The Conjuring."
Meanwhile, we have very few details on "The Conjuring 2," other than the rumored title, which is "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist." If the title is correct, horror enthusiasts have begun to speculate about the case this film must be based off of, one which involved a poltergeist and partially ended in a hoax in a village in Enfield, England.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will be reprising their original roles for the sequel.
