Oak Ridge Boys' William Lee Golden Re-tells the Story of the Prodigal in New Autobiography
Oak Ridge Boys' William Lee Golden will release his autobiography Behind the Beard on April 23rd. Between 1965 and 1987, and again since December 1995, William has been the baritone singer in the country vocal group The Oak Ridge Boys. He is widely known for his waist-length beard and hair.
However, in 1987, he was voted out of The Oak Ridge Boys, as the other three members wanted to change the band's image. He was replaced by Steve Sanders. William went on to record a couple of solo albums before rejoining the group in 1995.
Told in his own words, the book find William sharing his memories of his childhood and teenage years; and how he went from the cotton fields of Alabama to singing on stage with his favorite musical group.
According to the press release, "He also talks about his vision of turning a gospel group into one of the biggest acts in country music history. You'll also read about his wife's one-of-kind reaction when she learned he had been unfaithful, and the reason he was fired by the Oak Ridge Boys. Find out out he made his "Prodigal Son" return to the Oaks and what the future holds for William Lee and the Oak Ridge Boys. Plus, William also answers the question of: When and why he started growing his beard, and will he ever cut it?"
William himself shares, "When you write your life story, and decide to bare everything, it's kind of scary. It feels a lot like getting naked....in front of the entire world. Now that I've committed to it, there is one thing going through my mind....if I was going to get naked in front of everyone, I probably shouldn't have waited until I was 82 years old!"
This deluxe, hard cover book includes over 200 rare, never-before-seen photos from William's personal collection.
