Phil Thompson Talks About How "Jesus" Came About
Worship leader Phil Thompson is back. Partnering with Integrity music, he drops his brand new single "Jesus." The song was written at the piano and it came to Thompson within a matter of minutes. In fact, the entire song was written within a matter of 15 minutes amidst tears of worship.
Thompson shares how the song came about. "After I finished writing 'Lion of Judah,' I just sat at my piano and sang it straight through from top to bottom three times. With tears in my eyes, I just worshipped and the worship got deeper and deeper. 'Jesus' came within a span of 15 minutes. It was birthed out of the residue of worship that 'Lion of Judah' created and it felt like a gift had been given to me because it came so effortlessly. That's why it's written in the same key and almost the exact same tempo. In my mind, these songs are sisters. There is something very solemn and peaceful about this song. It felt like a hymn to me."
"It felt like a gift had been given to me, because it came so effortlessly," Phil explains. "There is something very solemn and peaceful about this song, a hymn-like feel which led the artist to add a third verse instead of a bridge to it. The message of 'Jesus' is too simple to even try to unpack... There is power in the name of Jesus. This name is above every other name. Undefeated and uncontested."

In the year 2017, Thompson step out to become a worship leader. The live session video for his song "My Worship" garnered over 1 million views within just two months. Just over a year late it has well over 12 million views. The full project was released Spring 2018 and reached #1 on Billboard charts. It garnered both Dove Award & Stellar Award nominations.
Within the year, Phil has crisscrossed the globe worshipping throughout Ghana, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada and the Caribbean Islands.
Here are lyrics to "Jesus:"
There is a name I love to call
It stands alone and conquers all
And every chain and every wall
Will be released and have to fall
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
There is a name I love to call
It stands alone and conquers all
We call Your name for every wall
And Jericho will have to fall
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Until the day I see Your face
And feel the warmth of Your embrace
I'll shout Your name through all the pain
No other name, Your precious name
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Savior
Savior
Savior
Savior
Savior
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Yahweh
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
There is a name I love to call
It stands alone and conquers all
And every chain and every wall
Will be released and have to fall
