Ian Yates' New Song "God You've Never Failed Me" Was Inspired by a Friend Who Had Cancer

Liverpool, UK worship leader and songwriter Ian Yates is set to release the second single "God You've Never Failed Me" from his forthcoming Between The Joy and The Sorrow Part 1 album on Friday May 27th. "God You've Never Failed Me" is the second single from Ian's sixth album.
Written in Sept 2021, Yates already had the chorus idea and was inspired by his close friend Tim, who was going through his journey with cancer. Tim and his wife Tash's updates on a friends and family Facebook group shaped the rest of the song and Ian dedicated this song to Tim. Before Tim passed Yates had the pleasure of sharing the song with him.
"God You've Never Failed Me" is the follow-up to the first single "40 Years" which dropped in April 22nd. Born out of a difficult season, in "40 Years," Yates sings that over the years he's weathered many storms but one particular storm hit him really hard, this brought on panic attacks and anxiety.
Yates says "I felt like I was falling apart, I. couldn't sleep, I had palpitations, I couldn't eat, I was full of anxiety. My prayer was God hold me. I was reminding myself of the times when I've gone through storms in the past and when I've seen Gods hand carry me through. I needed that again. I needed the one who has never let me go to hold me tight again.
"My prayer is that this song connects with many who have experienced situations where they feel like they are falling apart. I hope that it can remind us that in every situation we are held by a God that never lets us go."
Yates is a worship leader at his home church Bootle Elim and is part of Elim Sound, the national worship department for the Elim movement. He is married to Kate, they have 3 young children, Jackson, Elijah and Abiah.
