The Board of Trustees of Museum of the Bible (MOTB) expresses profound gratitude to Mr. Harry Hargrave and announces the appointment of longtime board member Dr. Carlos Campo as the institution's new Chief Executive Officer effective June 17, 2024.
Mr. Hargrave has been instrumental in making Museum of the Bible a reality from its inception to its opening in 2017 and beyond. Under his leadership, the museum has become a world-class destination. His tenure has been marked by excellence, integrity, and grace amid the challenges of pandemic-based closure.
Hargrave said, "I've been fortunate to have a remarkable and varied career, but serving here has been the high point. It has been the honor of a lifetime to play a meaningful role in making the historic vision a reality. Countless lives have been profoundly impacted by this institution - I have seen it every day. It is the right time to pass the baton precisely because the museum is so strong."
Museum Chairman of the Board of Directors Steve Green said, "Harry Hargrave has been a member of our founding generation, whose valuable contributions to the museum's success will never be forgotten. We look forward with great anticipation to the museum's future under Carlos Campo's leadership, confident in his knowledge and passion to take us into the next chapter of the Museum of the Bible's story. The relationship between these two exceptional leaders will make this a seamless transition."
Dr. Campo has been a member of the board of Museum of the Bible since 2015. His appointment to the position of CEO was a unanimous decision by the board, recognizing his dedication, leadership and strategic vision.
Dr. Campo is an experienced executive known for his groundbreaking leadership in Christian higher education. He is currently the president of Ashland University and previously served as president of Regent University and vice president of academics at the College of Southern Nevada. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas UNLV and was recognized in 2016 as the "Liberal Arts Alumnus of the Year," the highest and most prestigious alumni award given by the college. He has also served as the chair of the Hispanic Education Alliance of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. Dr. Campo is routinely ranked among the nation's most influential Latino Christian leaders.
Dr. Campo said, "This museum is unique in the world, and therefore comes with a unique responsibility. We are engaging culture with the world's most influential book in the world's most influential city. A world leader among museums, Museum of the Bible pushes the boundaries of technology and interaction, aiming to redefine the museum experience by offering visitors a powerful, enriching journey steeped in the Bible's narrative and its unparalleled influence on the world and in history. All of these things and more make serving as CEO a tremendous privilege. Karen and I can't wait."
