McKamey Legacy is Back with “I’m Holding To Truth”
As they write another chapter in a long-running Southern Gospel musical story, McKamey Legacy - that's the daughter of Southern Gospel's beloved McKameys, Connie Fortner, her husband Roger, and their son Elijah Fortner - are serving up another new song for fans impatient to hear more of the vintage McKameys sound in its next-generation garb. Like its predecessor, "A Burden and the Bible," the Horizon Records release, "I'm Holding to Truth," wraps a heartfelt testimony in the vein of the legendary family's decades of hits.
With help from Jared Easter (dobro) and pianist Tylar Vestal, McKamey Legacy establishes a classic feel from the start, accentuating the song's outlines before Eli Fortner begins an impassioned reading of songwriter Darren Lore's first verse:
I made a choice, one glorious day, to follow the Savior
I joined the journey, with my heart set, on the Heavenly prize
In a move at once familiar and exciting, the trio takes a sudden turn into a new key at the start of the second chorus, bringing Connie Fortner's voice to the fore for the remainder of the song:
I'm holding to Truth, in these last days
God's Word never changes.
I'm finding faith, on every page, written by grace
I'm safe and secure on the Rock
That cannot be moved.
I'm building upon a sure foundation
I'm holding to Truth.
"'I'm Holding To Truth' is a song that reminds us that God's Word is the truth," notes Connie Fortner. "God has never changed what is right or what is wrong. It still holds true today. We need to hold on to God's Word and don't compromise. God communicates with us through His Word and leads us on our journey. Hold on to the truth of His Word."
