Smokey Robinson Faces $50 Million Sexual Assault Lawsuit Amidst New Gospel Album Release

Motown legend Smokey Robinson, 85, is facing a $50 million lawsuit filed on May 6, 2025, in Los Angeles Superior Court by four former housekeepers. The women, identified as Jane Does 1 through 4, allege that Robinson sexually assaulted and raped them between 2007 and 2024 while they were employed in his homes in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Bell Canyon.
The lawsuit includes charges of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, and labor violations. Robinson's wife, Frances Robinson, is also named in the suit, accused of creating a hostile work environment through verbal abuse and ethnically derogatory language, as well as failing to intervene in her husband's alleged misconduct.
The plaintiffs claim they remained silent for years due to fears of retaliation, public shaming, and concerns over their immigration status. One woman alleges she was raped over 20 times, with the most recent incident occurring in February 2024 . Although no criminal charges have been filed, the women's attorneys have called for a criminal investigation. As of now, Robinson and his representatives have not publicly responded to the allegations .
Robinson has also recently partnered with Gaither Music Group to release his latest Gospel album, What The World Needs Now, which debuted on April 25, 2025. This 10-track collection blends gospel, soul, pop, reggae, and R&B, featuring both timeless classics and original songs that offer inspiration and encouragement.
What The World Needs Now is available for purchase on CD and vinyl through various retailers, including Gaither.com and Walmart. Digital versions can be streamed or downloaded via major music platforms.
