Navy Veteran Justin Gambino Returns with “You Were Always There”

Chronicling God's pursuit of his heart in a most unexpected place-the desert of Iraq-US Navy veteran-turned-acclaimed singer/songwriter Justin Gambino bows "You Were Always There." Produced by Walter Halliwell, who also co-penned the track with Gambino, the Residence Music single is now available on streaming platforms.
Currently showcased on multiple leading playlists, including Spotify's "All New Christian & Gospel," Apple Music's "New in Christian," and Amazon Music's "Fresh Christian," "You Were Always There" is a celebratory revelation of God's grace hallmarked by a powerful, gospel choir-backed chorus.
An autobiographical anthem for Gambino-who was convicted of theft as a young adult and allowed to enlist in the Navy instead of serve jail time-"You Were Always There" traces his surrender to the Lord while deployed in the Middle East. "In so many ways, I can look back and see how God was always with me, especially during my time in the Navy," he reflects. "I had put Him on the back burner and wanted nothing to do with church, but in Iraq I somehow found myself back in the church on base, and I was even given the opportunity to lead worship."
Gambino continues, "One of the lines in the song says, 'You knew I'd choose myself instead of You/You knew where that would lead me, still You walked me through.' And He did. He walked me through it all. Even when I didn't choose Him, He chose me, pursued me, and loved me."
"I started sharing 'You Were Always There' on the road last year, and I've had so many people come up to me and say that it really ministered to them and they can't wait until I release it," he adds. "It's a song that reminds us just how much God is on our side, fighting for us and wanting what's best for us because that's the loving Father He is. I can't wait to get back out on the road and encourage people with this one."
"You Were Always There" arrives on the heels of last month's "Just Like Jesus," which marked Gambino's first new single in nearly two years. Both tracks will be featured on his upcoming debut EP for Residence Music, and Gambino will perform these and other new songs live during a full slate of tour stops across the country this year, including concerts in Los Alamos, New Mexico; Eureka, California; and Reno, Nevada, among other cities.
ABOUT JUSTIN GAMBINOSince 2015, acclaimed Texas-based singer/songwriter Justin Gambino has been developing an enthusiastic following across the United States and around the world with his charismatic live performances and hope-filled anthems. With an EP, two full-length recordings and numerous cinematic music videos to his credit, Gambino's signature songs include "Courage," "Fighting On My Behalf," "Your Hands & Feet," and "Anchored." In 2024, he was named Artist of the Year Christian/Gospel/Inspirational Male at the 10th Annual Josie Music Awards, the largest independent music awards show in the world. Gambino has performed at festivals, churches, camps and other venues, opening for such genre leaders as TobyMac, for KING + COUNTRY, Crowder, Casting Crowns, Skillet and Switchfoot.
Gambino's prodigal journey is an overarching theme in his music and ministry. A rebellious teen, he was arrested for theft at the age of 18. Opting for military enlistment and community service in lieu of incarceration, he spent eight years in the US Navy. While serving in Iraq, Gambino was asked to lead worship on base, rekindling a love for music he first embraced as a child. Battling PTSD and anger issues following his military service, Gambino turned to alcohol and spiraled into depression and despair. One night, on the floor of his apartment, he cried out to God for help and a new journey of redemption, hope and purpose began. Coming full circle, Gambino now holds the Brazoria County Revival each year on the steps of the Texas courthouse where he was sentenced as a teen.
