Top Gun 2 release date still unconfirmed, but Tom Cruise movie definitely a go, says producer Jerry Bruckheimer

Top Gun 2 latest news: After close to 30 years, the sequel to the movie that catapulted Tom Cruise to stardom has been given the green light.
Movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer ("Con Air," "Armageddon," Pirates of the Caribbean") has said that while Top Gun 2 release date has yet to be confirmed and the lead star has not signed any contract yet, Top Gun 2 is definitely pushing through.
In an interview with Huffington Post, the Top Gun 2 producer says, "We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer."
Released in 1986, Top Gun was the movie that started it all. Inspired by the article "Top Guns" written by Ehud Yonay for California magazine, the action drama starred Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, and a then unknown named Val Kilmer.
Talks to make the sequel have been going on for quite some time, with Jerry Bruckheimer and the movie's original director, Tony Scott, taking the lead. Bit with Tony Scott's passing in 2012, Top Gun 2 was almost shelved.
In Top Gun 2, Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a US Navy pilot in training at an elite school in San Diego.
The Top Gun 2 movie plot is keeping up with the times: as more and more institutions are using air drones, many people think that pilots are a thing of the past. But Maverick is out to prove that men like him are here to stay.
