Charlie Hunnam is Guy Ritchie's Choice for the Iconic King Arthur Role
Charlie Hunnam may have decided to pass the big opportunity of portraying the role of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey," but looking at it now; he probably made the good choice upon landing the role of the iconic King Arthur in a reimagining Warner Bros. film to be directed by Guy Ritchie.
The "Sons of Anarchy" and "Pacific Rim" star is looking more promising with his confirmed association to this Guy Ritchie film, tentatively titled "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur." Even without the Christian Grey role, he's got a big franchise under his belt with the science fiction monster film "Pacific Rim." And of course, he's still got "Sons of Anarchy" in its last season in his powerful performance of a man set out to avenge the brutal murder of his wife.
According to reports; this King Arthur incarnation is intended for six films, which means it is being groomed as a potential franchise. Elizabeth Olsen is also reported to be the current favorite for the female lead. Idris Elba, who also co-starred with Hunnam in "Pacific Rim" is likely to join the cast for the role of Merlin who will be the mentor to Hunnam's King Arthur.
Joby Harold penned the script and also producing with Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnel and Lionel Wigram.
There's been a lot of attempts in the past years for King Arthur, but all failed to materialize. But this Charlie Hunnam starrer is definitely taking shape. It is planned for a July 22, 2016 release.
