Piers Morgan Confirms Official Exit From CNN
"Breaking news: I am no longer a CNN employee," tweets Piers Morgan in one of his tweets yesterday September 2.
Piers Morgan, well-known British presenter, writer and editor before becoming CNN's primetime host to the show Piers Morgan Live has recently confirmed his official exit from CNN, despite a two-year deal offered to him by CNN's big boss Jeff Zucker.
After his show Piers Morgan Live got cancelled February this year and aired its final episode by March due to poor ratings, Morgan could only either stay with CNN or move on to other things. With his announcement, he has eventually decided to go with the latter.
The deal offered to him by Jeff Zucker would be to host 40 big interview specials, but Morgan although gave the idea considerable thought has decided to reject the offer and try new pastures; as he stated in a series of tweets. Albeit the offer rejection, he thanked CNN, "I had a fantastic time in my 4 years @CNN and have huge respect for Jeff & all the people who work there. Great company, great network.''
Piers Morgan Live started on 17 January 2011 for CNN's 9 pm slot, as replacement to Larry King Live after King's retirement. During the show's run, Morgan also got himself in the hot seat when he commented about the National Rifle Association. He acknowledged that the audience may have probably gone tired with it and that it had caused divisions about the matter. He went on to comment that he was "a British guy debating on American cultural issues, including guns."
CNN is currently undergoing major transition and is expected to have more staff lay-offs in the weeks to follow.
So what is next for Piers Morgan?
