Assassin's Creed Movie Update: Robert Downey Jr. Plays Leonardo Da Vinci, Co-Producer Fassbender is the Movie's Aguilar & Michael

The Assassin's Creed movie release date is readily set for August 7, 2015, and Robert Downey Jr. has recently signed a contract with the movie as its character Leonardo Da Vinci.

Given that Leonardo Da Vinci is playing a role in the movie, the movie plot may be influenced by the storyline of the Assassin's Creed 2 video game. In the video game, Leonardo Da Vinci appears as Ezio Auditore's friend.

Another update reports that Michael Fassbender, the co-producer of the film, will also be playing a part in the film. He is taking the role of Aguilar de Algarrobo, a Spanish assassin, and also the role of Michael Lynch. Michael Lynch is Aguilar's modern day descendant, felon, and death row inmate.

Fassbender also mentioned that there will be new elements to the game's film adaptation, "There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice...but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game".

It is reported that Spanish Inquisition is going to be the movie's setting, and it will be totally different from the ones explored in the video games. It is also said that the main antagonist in the movie is Tomas de Torquemada. Tomas is a Spanish Dominican friar and the Grand Inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition.

Regarded as Ubisoft's best selling franchise, the game and its storyline were both well received. Over 73 million copies were sold as of April 2014. This is why many Assassin's Creed fans are looking forward to its first movie on August 7, 2015.
