Amazon Fire Phone News: Amazon slashes price from $199 to 99 cents!
Recently, an Amazon executive admitted that the retail giant is planning on cutting down the price of its Amazon Fire Phone. But Amazon had moved quickly as anticipated.
Released in July this year, the Amazon Fire Phone, was initially priced at $199 with a two-year contract. This seems quite absurd as the phone is not quite similar to giants Apple and Samsung's array of smartphones. Though the price was the same with Apple and Samsung at that time, critics were wondering why would fans of iPhone's and Galaxy's make the switch to a new phone and operating system?
The initial sales of the Amazon Fire phone were fewer than 35,000 phones in the first 20 days. A day before Apple announces iPhone 6, Amazon dramatically and drastically cuts the price to 99 cents! Yes you heard it right, that's a whooping 99 cents!
Dave Limp, senior vice president of devices at Amazon, said in an interview with The Huffington Post that, "We heard the feedback, we ... heard it from customers that they expected more value. We had had a plan to reduce the price. To be perfectly honest about it, it was going to happen a little later." These comments were made by Limp when Amazon unveiled its new lineup of Kindle tablets and eReaders.
The gesture control, 3D effects and other bells and whistles haven't been a hit with consumers, which the company has been developing for four years. Amazon executives believed that the Fire Phone was a premium device.
"I think we've gotten to the right place now," Limp said in the interview. "It was a bit of a road to get there. But I think that customers are reacting positively to the new pricing. We've got a big holiday ahead of us, so we'll see how it goes from there."
