Marco Polo Release Date, Reveals, Reviews, Spoilers and Updates : New Show Coming to Netflix on December 12th 2014
Netflix are holding nothing back this year with their new series Marco Polo. Originally developed at Starz who were unable to make it work it was handed back to Weinstein. Netflix rode in on their internet horse wearing the white hat and saved the day. The giant is said to be pumping 300 million dollars a season into the series. This is a big leap from the 50 to 60 million dollars per season they use on House of Cards and Orange is the New Black which are the two biggest shows on the network as at now. When it comes to resources Weinstein and Netflix are also holding nothing back with a 50 acre studio they built in Malaysian Jungle and a crew of roughly 400 people. Looking at the resources thrown behind this production fans are in for a treat.
The series is about Marco's earlier days in KublaI Khan's court. Marco Polo, his brother and his uncle set out for the Mongol Empire that is in present day Mongolia and much of present day China when he was just 10 years old they arrived at his court when Marco was 17. Khan who had never seen Europeans asked many questions of them and sent letters to the pope of the time and asked for envoys and Chrism from him. Unfortunately the pope died and the Polo brothers' return was delayed as they awaited the election of the new pope. Unable to travel to China by sea for lack of seaworthy ships the brothers travelled over land for 3 years before arriving at Khans summer palace three years later. The Emperor took a shining to Marco and kept him at court with him for 17 years before releasing him. Marco gets back to Europe where he is captured as a prisoner of war and upon his release settles in Venice and never leaves again until his death at the age of 70.
Lorenzo Richelmy is set to take up the role of Marco. Mr. Richelmy has never had a major English speaking role and is acting opposite Benedict Wong who is an English stage actor. The combination of these two must be very interesting and present a unique challenge to the director. The series is set for a December 12th 2014 release date.
