Joan Rivers' Death Caused by 'Complications of Medical Therapy'
Results of medical investigation revealed on Thursday that 81-year old actress and "Fashion Police" TV host Joan Rivers died due to "complications of medical therapy."
Rivers, who died on Sept. 4, at Mount Sinai Hospital, succumbed to cardiac and respiratory arrest which brought her to instantaneous death.
Accordin to the Daily News, the City Medical Examiner ruled out that the comedian actress's death "resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy." She was undergoing an endoscopy at Upper East Side Clinic when the oxygen supply was allegedly cut off by her doctor who was later identified as Gwen Korovin. Rivers had her throat checked by Korovin due to gastroesophageal reflux disease and certain voice changes.
Korovin is an ear, nose and throat doctor whose clients are mostly those in the elite group. Because many Hollywood stars have her as their doctor for vocal problem treatment, she is dubbed as the "Patron Saint of Broadway."
This development was revealed after the USA Today reported on the biopsy conducted on Rivers' vocal chords. Said biopsy was sudden and not planned. There was a point when Rivers' vocal cords have began to swell and it led to an oxygen cutoff to her lungs, which then resulted into a cardiac arrest. Propofol was the sedative used on Rivers, the same drug that was linked to Michael Jackson's demise.
Rivers' daughter, Melissa, is planning to sue Korovin for the death of the actress.
Born in 08 June 1933, Joan Rivers rose to fame in 1965 when she appeared as guest of the famous "The Tonight Show." From that time on, her comedic persona has been her trademark in Hollywood. Rivers was also the first woman to have a late night talk show, "The Late Show with Joan Rivers." Her showbiz world was mostly comprised with hosting stints to many different TV talk shows which included "Fashion Police" on E!
Rivers was also recognized as a best-selling writer. Her published books included "Jewelry by Joan Rivers, Enter Talking, Still Talking" and "From Mother to Daughter: Thoughts and Advice on Life, Love and Marriage."
She was also honored in her philanthropy works. Rivers was active in supporting causes to help fight HIV/AIDS. She supported the God's Love We Deliver and Elton John AIDS Foundation which provides foods to HIV/AIDS victims in New York City.
Rivers' death was mourned by many of her friends and colleagues in films, TV and theater.
