Where is Jonathan Pierce Now?
Fans of contemporary Christian music of the 90s will remember Jonathan Pierce for songs such as "The Longer I Serve Him," "I Am a Promise," and "I Believe in Christ." Jonathan Pierce Hildreth, better known as Jonathan Pierce, released his last album "For You" in 2003. So, where is he now?
Jonathan Pierce grew up in the small town of Odessa, Texas. He credits his parents with instilling strong Christian values into his life as he grew up. His parents were youth workers and choir member and continued to influence Pierce over the years. After he moved to Nashville as a teenage, Pierce started a youth choir at Christ Church, which is known for ministering through their music and choir around the world.
While directing his peers in the choir, Jonathan discovered the power and appeal of music. His experience at the church gave him the confidence to launch out on his own solo career. When asked how he became a success in the contemporary Christian music scene, he says, "The church has to be credited with everything, what I've done, who I am. That's where I got my vocal experience and passion [for music]."
Following his graduation from high school, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he sang with the Christ Church Choir. Naomi Judd, one half of the coutry duo The Judds, introduced him with The Imperials, who offered him a spot. He was with them for three years (1990-93), until he was offered a position with the Gaither Vocal Band. He remained with them for three years (1994-97).
Pierce released several albums on Curb Records. In 1999, he was nominated for five Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards for Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year for "I Believe In Christ", Inspirational Song of the Year for "Farther Than Your Grace Can Reach", and Male Vocalist of the Year. His 2000 release, Sanctuary, hit No. 35 on the Billboard Top Contemporary Christian Albums chart.
Pierce appeared in the part of Joseph in the Nashville revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in December 1999.
In 2014, Pierce became the owner and operator of Pierce and Company in Nashville. He was selected lead designer for CMT's Ultimate Country Home series. Jonathan guided many country-singing greats in designing a 3,650-square-foot house over the course of 13 episodes.
He had never publicized his work as a designer prior to this. In earlier times, he had once filled the days between concert dates by designing homes for some of Nashville's most notable families. By industry standards he was successful; comparisons were made to all the big power singers. But Jonathan was miserable because though he could hide behind his voice, there was so much he wanted to become and to do. So he pulled aside from his career and music for an extended hiatus.
