Gospel Artists Unite to Raise Money for the Cancer-Stricken Deon Kipping

On Tuesday, gospel stars William Murphy, Tasha Cobbs, JJ Hairston, Jonathan Nelson, Isaac Carree, Jason Nelson, VaShawn Mitchell, Gerald and Tammi Haddon, Zacardi Cortez and James Fortune came together for an event called "A Night Of Love" at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit church in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Together, they raised $25,000 to help Gospel singer and songwriter Deon Kippling to pay for his medical expenses in battling cancer.
On January 18th, Kipping reveals that he has cancer. "The bad news is I've recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer, but the good news is God is my healer and I know He has it all under control," said the somber-looking musician in a recorded video message.
"I don't have a script to read from today. This is real life and in this life I'm requesting your prayers and support," he continued.
The 37-year-old Connecticut native, who has been singing since the young age of 9, has shared the stage with gospel greats: Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker and Tye Tribbett. His ability to create touching melodies opened a door for Kipping to compose music for Marvin Sapp.
Fellow artist JJ Hairston, explains why it was important for him to contribute his time and efforts to raise funds for Kipping."My mother passed from cancer so I know what that means. I know what that takes, how it affects the family, [and] how it affects the person," said Hairston, while promoting his new album "You Deserve This" which was released Friday. "So, it was important that all the gospel music artists came together to support Deon. I think that was great that we did it and we raised over $25,000."
