Tauren Wells Warns About the Trappings of Traditions with Powerful Devotional

Eight-time GRAMMY®-nominated artist, six-time Dove award winner Tauren Wells has taken the time to post a powerful devotional on Mark 7:13. In this devotion, Wells wisely warns us about the dangers of traditions and how they can entangle us. Here is the devotional:
"Making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do." Mark 7:13
We must be careful not to hand down the traditions we've created (or even the ones God established at one point and then fulfilled on our behalf because we simply could not) or we nullify or "make of no effect" the very power of God's word and step outside of true worship. ("Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.'" Mark 7:7)
The whole chapter is a great reminder of what God calls sin (things that can separate us from God) (Mark 7:21-22) and where sin comes from, (the inside). It also shows us that traditions can lead us into sin because tradition can actually make God's Word of no effect because we have tried to supersede, side-step, or substitute his word with our traditions.
"Making of no effect" is from the Greek root word akuroo. It means to remove all power and authority. Although we cannot really nullify the authority of God's words, we can make them functionally useless by living and teaching as if our standards are greater than God's.
